Meet the Girl behind the cameraBlanca Anais
My name is Blanca Anais, but most people call me Blanca (or Blanqui, or Blanx, I could keep going…). I was born in Caracas, Venezuela and have been living in the UK for the past six years. You will normally find me at home – in Sutton, Surrey with my husband, our baby girl, and our grumpy Cocker-Spaniel.
To give you a little bit of background – I studied languages and translation at university. Then, I specialized in International Business. For years I have worked in the maritime sector in businesses related to shipping and maritime training. However, I have always had an interest in art – drawing, illustration, design, photography.
It took me years to take photography from a hobby to a business. I launched the business only months before my baby’s birth took place. I simply felt that if I sat on it for longer, I would never do it – and so here we are.
In order to create Blanca Anais Photography, I first decided to get formal education at the British Academy of Photography. This helped me advance my knowledge and gave me the opportunity to test myself outside of my comfort zone.
My photography journey
As much as I had loved photography for many years, it wasn’t until I got pregnant that it struck me. I didn’t want to forget what I was living during those days. I sure didn’t want to miss out on capturing any of those moments that I knew we would live with our baby. At that point, photography took a whole new meaning. It also made me think of how much I still enjoy looking at the pictures of when I was a child.
I noticed how little my dad appears on them, mostly because he was the one who was always snapping away. My dad is no longer with us and I wish I had more pictures with him. All of this inspired me and motivated me to start taking pictures not just of my family but to capture raw emotions for other people that will truly appreciate them.
I enjoy shooting in natural light and creating images that portray warmth, intimacy, and connection. Usually, I provide some guidance regarding posing, but I prefer to let people be spontaneous, interact, move around and create their own memories.
I like images to feel authentic and to show emotions. As you will find out, I’m not a big fan of formalities and I aim for people to be relaxed and obtain results that feel genuine. We will take images that tell your story. I want you to look at your photographs and be there, remember the sensations, the smell, the emotion.
